Gypsum quarries of Mazan

Description

With a thickness of 130 meters, Mazan's gypsum layer is the most important in Europe. It is also the largest open mine in Europe. The quarry is 350 meters deep and has 25 km of roads! It has been in use for more than 100 years and is now operated by Lafarge.
We drive another kilometer further around the gypsum quarry. Before a forest, at the first major crossroads, turn right in the direction of Blauvac. The road meanders up between the trees, vines and fruit trees.
