Pernes-les-Fontaines is located south of the Mont Ventoux, on the plain at the foot of the mountains of the Vaucluse, between Carpentras and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The Nesque River crosses the city from the mountains of the Vaucluse to reach the Sorgues. This river provides the majority of the 40 public fountains that give the city its name and provide refreshment, and 8 of which are listed Historic Monuments.
