Menerbes also ranks as one of the most beautiful villages in France, and has the appearance of a stone ship. Its great appeal includes its outstanding views of the Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse, the proud streets lined with city mansions from the 18th century, its old homes and village atmosphere.
Menerbes has been home to many famous artists, including the painter Nicolas de Staël, Picasso et Dora Maar and British author Peter Mayle whose writing contributed to its fame in the 1980's. Today, you can visit the unusual Corkscrew Museum, and taste excellent Côtes du Luberon wines at the magnificent Maison de la Truffe et du Vin.
See: The la Pichouno dolmen, identified in 1850 by Abbot André; Le Castelet, small château built on the ruins of an ancient fortress; the richly decorated 14th century church, the belfry and its campanile; Saint Blaise chapel from the 18th century.
