In the commune of Beaufort, it separates the tourist resort of Arêches-Beaufort from the dam and the lake of Roselend. The access road is narrow on both sides.
The pass has been used twice by the Tour de France, each time classified hors categorie. The first time, in 2018, on stage 11, Warren Barguil took the lead. During the 9th stage of the Tour de France 2021, it is Nairo Quintana who crosses it in first position.
