According to a report in the French press on January 22, 1981, the secret order "Prieuré de Sion" was still very much alive and a convention was held in Blois, France, on January 17, 1981. There, Pierre Plantard de Saint-Clair was reportedly elected as the new Grand Master of the order.
Pierre Plantard de Saint-Clair is said to be a direct descendant of Dagobert II and thus related to the Merovingians. His lineage is claimed to have been proven by the parchments of Queen Blanche of Castile. These parchments were discovered in 1891 by Abbé Saunière in his church in Rennes-le-Château.
Pierre Plantard is also directly descended from the owner of the destroyed Barberie castle in Sainte-Colombre but is linked to many more places that are directly or indirectly associated with the "Order of Sion." For example, he owns land in the vicinity of Rennes-le-Château and Rennes-les-Bains (the Blanchefort mountain), and he owns the ground where the church of St. Dagobert once stood in Stenay.
He is also said to be a personal friend of Charles De Gaulle.
During an interview in 1979 with the BBC, he mentioned that a path was being paved for the return of a monarchy in France.
