Discover the citadel of Montmédy through the ramparts and its museums. Length of visit: 2 hours.
The ramparts tour takes you to the heights of the citadel, with a panoramic view of the surrounding area. It takes you into the casemates and underground passageways to discover the life of soldiers in days gone by.
Musée Jules Bastien-Lepage: Renovation work has enabled the museum to be brought up to standard and redesigned. Works purchased over the last ten years and never before exhibited have been brought out of storage (mainly drawings). In addition, deposits from the Musée Lorrain in Nancy and the Musée Rodin in Paris complete the collection. The museum comprises three different areas:
- a general introduction to the artist?s life and work
- an iconographic cabinet, displaying drawings and fragile objects
- a room of paintings.
An interactive terminal reveals the diversity of the painter?s creations, presenting his major canvases, most of which are kept abroad.
Musée de la fortification (Fortification Museum): this museum aims to showcase the richness, diversity and interest of Meuse?s heritage in the field of military architecture, from its origins to the end of the 18th century: models of defensive works, ancient weapons, aerial views of fortified sites in the Meuse region, etc?
