Designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, the Centre Pompidou is recognizable by its outdoor escalators and its gigantic coloured pipes. Since its inauguration in 1977, it has housed one of the world's richest collections of modern and contemporary art. The works are arranged chronologically in two areas: the modern period (1905-1960) and the contemporary period (1960 to the present). Internationally renowned exhibitions are also organized throughout the year.
