Chapelle Notre Dame des Neiges à Gourdon

The chapel and the mill of the font (ancient milling in the XIIth century), participate in the charm of the valley of Bléou. A roman oratory was built here on a miraculous spring. It is a place of Marian pilgrimage on the way to Compostela. Its name evokes the meteorological miracle that occurred in Rome in the 5th century. The building, which was ruined during the Renaissance, was rebuilt in 1646 in a baroque style, of which the portal and the bell tower are beautiful examples. A magnificent altarpiece with blue polychrome decorations and gilded sculptures in relief sits inside. It is the work of Jean Tournié, a famous 17th century sculptor from Gourdon.
