The attack on the tugboat Düsseldorf took place in the port of Dieppe on August 23, 1940. It is one of the first attacks in France carried out against the German occupier during World War II. During a Wehrmacht exercise, two young sailors, Belgian captain Joseph Godu and French mechanic Jean de Ruyck, blew up their tugboat while German soldiers were on board. The explosion killed 38 people, including the two young sailors.
