The villa was built in 1890-1891 to a design by Edmond De Vigne for the painter couple Adrien Demont and Virginie Demont-Breton. They were fascinated by ancient Egypt and, although they had never been there, they had their wisdom from the book "Description de l'Égypte", a very extensive study of Napoleon Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt. From 1910-1911, the villa was extended with a monumental gatehouse, inspired by the gate of the Temple complex of Dendera.
