Caudron Flight School of Crotoy

The Caudron Flight School in Crotoy is a training school for professional civilian pilots, founded in 1910 by the two Caudron brothers: Gaston and René, originally from the Somme).
It was supplemented by a military pilot school starting in 1913.
It is also a former airfield before the First World War and before the Second World War.

The Caudron brothers settled here in June 1908 and built a first hangar by the seaside along the fine sandy beach, where they constructed their 60 m2 biplane glider and flew it for about a hundred meters.
They opened their school in 1910. It quickly became one of the most renowned schools in France.
It is here that a good number of future "Aces" of aviation will be certified. They follow the classic route: Le Crotoy - Le Touquet - Le Crotoy. Due to numerous rollovers in the sand, repair and maintenance workshops, a cafeteria, and then a postcard vendor were established.
On February 25, 1913, the civilian flight school was supplemented by a military flight school. Starting in 1915, four large hangars made of wood and metal were constructed.
In 1917, it became a bombing school. It was actually bombed on September 15, 1918.
