The Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park is one of the 53 regional nature parks in France. It was founded in 1973. It is a nationally inhabited area, nationally recognized for its exceptional heritage and landscape value.
The Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park is an area on the southern tip of the Massif Central, which extends over part of the Tarn department and part of the Hérault, both in the Occitanie region. The "port cities" around it are Castres, Revel, Saint-Chinian and Lodève. The park comprises 119 municipalities, or 90,511 inhabitants on an area of 306,000 hectares. The distribution of the population is uneven: there are 25 hab./km2 in the Tarnese part (excluding urban pool of Mazamet) against 16 hab./km2 in the Hérault part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park. This low density is a reflection of the rural and mountain population.
