The Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park is a French Regional Nature Park, created on October 23, 1975. It was re-labeled in 2008 and now covers 257,214 hectares in 164 municipalities of the Orne, Manche, Mayenne and Sarthe and thus extends over two regions: Normandy and the Pays de la Loire.
The territory of Normandy-Maine Park is structured around a series of sandstone mountain ridges topped by vast forests that stretch 100 kilometers from west to east and bring together the highest points in western France. This contrasting geomorphology has participated over the centuries in the organization of the territory. On the one hand, we identify the high altitudes and steep slopes, which are less populated and which combine the limitations of exploitation (isolation, poor exposure, shallow and stony soils, etc.) that know and know a vulnerable and fragile nature. rather extensive, so that a certain "authenticity" of the landscapes can be maintained. On the other hand, there are sectors, more humanized and often more open, that are subjected to more intensive operating systems and that welcome most residents of the area.
The park's territory consists of various landscape elements:
