Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees

The Catalan Pyrenees Regional Natural Park (in Catalan : Regional Natural Park del Pirineu Català , generally abbreviated as Parc del Pirineu Català ) is the first regional natural park on the Pyrenean massif . It was created in March 2004.

It includes 66 communes where some 21000 inhabitants live, and it covers 138 000 hectares of Capcir , Cerdagne , and Conflent , ranging from fruit and vegetable bottoms of low-altitude valleys to the highest peaks of the Pyrénées-Orientales passing through the great massifs of scrubland and Mediterranean forest .

In a territory rich in seven nature reserves and three Natura 2000 sites, the objective of the sustainable development project contained in the Park Charter is the protection of natural areas , but also of economic development in the region .

The Park also has nine ski resorts , two Vauban citadels classified as World Heritage by UNESCO and two spas . It is crossed right through by the Yellow Train , which runs since 1910 the 62 km between Villefranche-de-Conflent and Latour-de-Carol .

The Catalan Pyrenees Park promotes the environment by bringing together all the local actors on a territory project at the service of the local economy . The park house is located in Olette on the site of La Bastide since July 2015. The staff of the park works there, and the public can find information (opening every afternoon).
