The oldest part of Forbach is the "Chapel Hill", which nestles on the slopes of the Schlossberg and on which the castral church dedicated to St. Sebastian was built, and is the oldest part of the town of Forbach.
It consisted of houses built along a maze of narrow lanes and squares criss-crossed by narrow passages and cobbled stairways. In the 16th century, the "Kappelberg" was enclosed by a surrounding wall more than 7 m high in places and pierced by two gates.
