A few kilometers from Bitche, the small village of Sturzelbronn is home to an ancient Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century. Destroyed during the French Revolution, only a few vestiges remain: the 1935 statue of Saint Bernard de Clairvaux, the large portal and the lapidary calendar.
The tympanum of the former Romanesque abbey church testifies to the sobriety of Cistercian artistry.
Also worth seeing: the pillory, testimony to the right of justice exercised by the monks, a sandstone sarcophagus and the site of the cave-cellar.
