It was in Moselle that the first days of conflict of the First World War took place with the Battle of Morhange on 19 and 20 August 1914. A memorial monument, erected in memory of the fallen soldiers, stands in the valley of Morhange and is an invitation to meditation. Built between the two wars, it was destroyed in 1940 by the Germans and rebuilt at their expense in 1964. An orientation table overlooks the battlefield and gives an idea of the movements of the troops.
