È nella Mosella che si svolsero i primi giorni di conflitto della Prima guerra mondiale, con la battaglia di Morhange del 19 e 20 agosto 1914. Un monumento commemorativo, eretto in memoria dei soldati caduti, si trova nella valle di Morhange e invita alla meditazione. Costruito nel periodo tra le due guerre, fu distrutto nel 1940 dai tedeschi e ricostruito a loro spese nel 1964. Sul posto, un tavolo di orientamento domina il campo di battaglia e permette di vedere i movimenti delle truppe.
