La fontaine Gourdou

"Near Hautefort, at the foot of the hill, the Font Gourdou with its spring and its wash-house was frequented daily by the washerwomen, at a time when washing machines did not exist. The outward journey was easy but the return was very difficult. Climbing the steep path and then the hill with a wheelbarrow loaded with wet clothes required a great deal of strength.
Why was this place named like this? I can't provide any official document but simply report what Mr Célérier, who had old archives in his hands, told me: ʺAu During the Hundred Years War, a Gourdon family was massacred in the Lot by the English. A teenager escaped the carnage and took refuge in Hautefort.
