Eglise Saint-Nicolas

The division of the department at the time of the Revolution placed this parish on the borders of the former diocese of Limoges in the Indre. The church, which belonged to a priory (building rebuilt to the north) in Bénévent-l’Abbaye, lost its transept, the fragments of which still exist today and the northern chapel conserves this memory (11th century capitals). The flat apse, breached with a wide semi-circular arched opening, was closed with the magnificent gilded wooden altarpiece (18th century), restored and reassembled since it was in the northern chapel. This sculpture masterpiece alone deserves the trip. Its removal revealed a magnificent painted decoration.
