Having gone on Crusade with Arnoux II, adviser to the Countess Ermesinde of Luxembourg and builder of the castle of Volkrange, Guerlach did not think he would never see his beautiful Irmengarde again. After having fought valiantly and having deserved the hand of his beautiful daughter to her father-in-law, here he comes back a leper. Legend or reality, this story, worthy of minstrel's tales and courtly love, is set in Volkrange Castle. Today amputated of several parts, there are still some interesting elements. Round tower, drawbridge, dovecote, private chapel... the atmosphere is there and transports you to the beginning of the Luxembourg history of Thionville

The association of the Friends of the Old Castle of Volkrange has published a book about the history of Guerlach and Irmengarde, a copy of a medieval manuscript created in its illumination workshop by 4 volunteers.
