The opera house has been located on Place Stanislas since 1919. Its Italian-style theatre is a pastiche of 18th century opera. On 1 January 2006, the Ministry of Culture and Communication awarded the lyric scene in Nancy the label of National Opera. The Opera of Nancy and Lorraine thus became, after Lyon, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Montpellier, the fifth national opera in the region. This distinction is a true recognition of the quality of the artistic work and skills of the teams of the National Opera of Lorraine.
