The Château de Lunéville is a wonderful gateway to the 18th century.
Come and discover this jewel of French heritage, listed as a Monument Historique. From its museum to its formal gardens, this visit will take you on a journey through the history of the Dukes of Lorraine.
* Closed from January 02 to March 13, 2024.
In 1702, the Duke of Lorraine Léopold 1er moved away from his capital Nancy, occupied by the French, and chose Lunéville to settle with his court. He commissioned Germain Boffrand, a pupil of Jules Hardouin-Mansart, to build a sumptuous château inspired by the palace of Louis XIV. Sober but elegant in style, the château was to become the residence of Leopold, then of his successor, Stanislas Leszcynski, who became Duke of Lorraine thanks to his son-in-law Louis XV. Classified as a "Monument Historique" and made the property of the Conseil Général de Meurthe-et-Moselle in 2001, it attracts thousands of visitors every year. Methodically, patiently, the work undertaken by the department here is erasing the traces of the gigantic fire of January 2, 2003, which the men of art have returned to us, in order to pass on to future generations one of the finest and largest architectural and landscaped ensembles of the 18th century. In September 2010, the restored Chapelle du Château de Lunéville reopened its doors to the public.
