Immigrants from the other side of the Rhine, the many soldiers, often of Protestant religion, who made up the troops stationed in Metz, led to the rapid construction of new places of worship dedicated to them. Thus a vast hall church, of which only the narrow and slender tower, more than 90 m high, remains, was erected in the city at the beginning of the German annexation.
