Lake in the course of rehabilitation: resumption of nautical activities and bathing in the summer of 2024.
The Lake of Bouzey ? The Bouzey Lake is a natural setting located close to the town of Epinal. It is a multi-faceted destination/site, ideal for relaxation and for clearing one's head. Its green environment offers a total change of scenery and it is the ideal place to practice different sports and leisure activities. An immersion in the heart of idyllic landscapes ? to work out, swim or simply lounge on the beach!
Historically, the lake of Bouzey is an artificial reservoir which feeds the Canal des Vosges, but it presents undeniable ecological qualities because a remarkable ecosystem has developed there! Numerous animals have taken up residence in this bucolic setting: birds such as swans, mallards, coots and other species such as the muskrat or the garter snake.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the many surprises and discoveries along the way. Near the lake is the peat bog of the Etang de la Comtesse, a protected natural area where fauna and flora flourish.
Breathe in serenity in a preserved natural environment, during a leisurely walk, a morning jog or a family walk. It is possible to walk around the lake in one and a half hours, using the 7 km of footpaths reserved for pedestrians.
Lovers of water sports, land sports and fishing will not be left out, as many activities are offered around the lake, depending on the season: pedal boats or sailboats to sail on the water, safe bicycle rides around the lake, supervised swimming during the summer, jogging along the banks to stretch your legs? Handicapped fishing pontoons have also been specially fitted out for fishermen with reduced mobility.
Several picnic tables are also placed around the lake, during hot summer evenings, you can take a gourmet break while enjoying the magnificent sunsets.
The lake of Bouzey is a place accessible to all, for a sporting break or to recharge your batteries at the water's edge.
A bit of history: the reservoir was created in 1882, to feed the Canal des Vosges, a working tool for Voies Navigables de France. In April 1895, the dam broke, with tragic consequences. A monument located on the banks of the lake, on the side of the dam, recalls this sad event.
Anecdote: the lake of Bouzey is the biggest lake of the Vosges, in front of the lake of Gérardmer! At its full level, the lake covers 140 hectares, compared to 116 hectares for the lake of Gérardmer.
