The military necropolis of Gerbéviller, created in 1920 at the same time as the neighboring German cemetery, contains 2,164 graves of French soldiers. A majority of these men, who fell on the surrounding battlefields between 1914 and 1918, died during the "Battle of Lorraine" which took place from mid-August to September 1914. A central ossuary dominates the necropolis, and offers a view of the surrounding wooded countryside, making the rest of the soldiers peaceful. Accessible freely, every day of the year.
