The necropolis of the kings and queens of France impresses by its volumes and the splendour of its stained glass windows. Although its appearance dates back to the 13th century, its history dates back to the 5th century when a first basilica was erected on the burial site of Saint-Denis, considered to be the first bishop of Paris. Today, the basilica houses an exceptional collection of 70 recumbents and sculpted tombs, including those of Clovis, François I and Catherine de Médicis.
