The ponds of Commelles is one of the most remarkable sites of the Chantilly forest!
They are an integral part of a natural zone of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest and are protected as a classified site under the Domaine de Chantilly and belong to the Parc Naturel Régional Oise-Pays de France. From the beginning of the Romantic period, this site, which was much frequented by artists, inspired Chateaubriand in particular, who tells us:
"I would have found the mysteries of life in the stream of the Thève: ? it dies in the ponds of Comelles that feeds its youth, ceaselessly expiring, ceaselessly renewed?
To know : In March, every year, thousands of frogs and toads come to mate in the ponds. The roads are closed in the evening to prevent them from being run over by the hundreds.
Walk, bike or ride around the 4 ponds, admire the White Queen's Castle and take a gourmet break at the Crêperie l'Etangs d'Art!
