Description

Seat of one of the oldest lordshops of Champagne, Chacenay castle was separated into two entities , that of the castle corresponding to the current main building, and that of the towers Sainte-Paris, corresponding to the fortified entrance nearby. Its owners nelonged to the greatest families of Champagne, those of Arcis, Choiseul, Anglure, Chaumont, Salazar, Dinteville…..
From the 17th century the old defenses of the old fortress no longer interested these great characters. In 1740 a remarkable woman, Elizabeth Arnauld, separated from Etienne Poncher,a State Councillor, bought the land of Chacenay. She modernized the appartments of the main building, where she spent 6 months of the year. She welcomed relatives, neighbours and friends for receptions, literary sessions and theatrical performances, without forgetting to take an interest in her neighbourhood. She built an audience of justice and a free infirmary.
In the middle of the 19th century the estate fell into.
