Vieux-la-Romaine is the story of the town of Aregenua, a capital that administered one of the territories of what is now Normandy long before the birth of the latter. Vieux-la-Romaine is also a town in the countryside, an opportunity to spend a day with the family, with visits, walks, games and a picnic in the shade of the ancient garden.
The museum
The objects unearthed during the excavations at Vieux-la-Romaine are an invitation to discover the daily life of the inhabitants of the ancient town of Aregenua. Thanks to models, tactile objects and other interactive features, you can take part in your visit!
The archaeological sites
Two restored Roman houses
The House of the Great Peristyle, a luxury residence in the chic Forum district, can be visited in the open air. The House with the U-shaped courtyard, more modest and located in a craft and shopping district, can be discovered from the top of a footbridge offering an overall view of the site.
An excavation in progress, the forum
An emblematic monument of Roman cities, the forum was the place where political and economic power was exercised. This admirably preserved monument, which is currently being studied, can be visited with a guide according to the annual programme.
