On July 28, 1928, the city of Soissons inaugurated a memorial to the British army on rue de la Bannière. The monument was designed by sculptors Herbet Hart and Eric Henry Kennington, and architects Gordon H. Holt and Verner O. Rees. Placed on a pedestal, three British soldiers stand in the center of the monument. They precede a wall of white stones, typical of the Soissonnais region, on which are engraved the names of 3,987 officers and soldiers to whom the war denied an identifiable burial. On this same wall, an inscription recalls the sacrifice of these men who came to fight alongside the French armies during the First World War. Ask for the access code at the Tourist Office
