The Domjevin Military Underground Hospital was a surgical hospital built by the French army (stretcher-bearers of the 73rd Infantry Regiment) on the hillside between 1916 and 1918, served by a railroad line from the end of 1916. Located in the immediate rear-front, it was intended for the wounded who could not be transported. A remarkable construction for its time, the entire underground site was classified as a historical monument in 1922
Today, only 3 perpendicular galleries are still visible. The two entrances are still clearly visible, but the whole of this Military Underground Hospital included other parts, notably an operating room, an X-ray room, a pharmacy, a store, a kitchen... all powered by a generator used for heating, ventilation and lighting. In January 1918, the building was completed, but it seems that it was not used or was hardly used.
