VILLAGES DÉTRUITS

Nine villages, located in the "Red Zone", were totally wiped off the map during the Battle of Verdun, swept away by the turmoil of the battle: Beaumont-en-Verdunois, Bezonvaux, Cumières-le-Mort-Homme, Douaumont, Fleury-devant-Douaumont, Haumont-près-Samogneux, Louvemont-Côte-du-Poivre, Ornes, Vaux-devant-Damloup.
Remain the remains where the locations of houses and public places are symbolized. They recall the trades and activities of these former village communities. They have never been rebuilt. These ghost villages, Dead for France, present a moving memory through the chapels and memorials erected after the war.
