SITE MEDIÉVAL ET NÉCROPOLE CAROLINGIENNE

Excavations were carried out from 1967 to 1993 on the site of a former medieval castle. Archaeologists have uncovered several levels of sarcophagi, particularly near the chevet of the priory. Part of the necropolis does not seem to predate the 12th century, but a series of tombs is from the Merovingian period. The sarcophagi are of various directions and structures, some monolithic, others made of several fitted stones, even bearing traces of reuse. One can see a Gallic rampart, a Merovingian necropolis from the 11th and 12th centuries, a medieval priory from the 9th to the 18th century, the ruins of a feudal castle from the 12th century, a medieval necropolis from the 12th century, a craft installation (bread oven, lime kiln).
