The hidden village of Camp Marguerre (1915), in the Gouraincourt forest, is gradually revealed as you approach the marked path. This camp, a rear base for the German rearguard, made up of concrete barracks, was built under the orders of German Captain Hans Marguerre. He set up a concrete plant and a camp here to test the uses of this material, which was essential for positional warfare. A visit to the site provides an insight into the daily life of German soldiers before and during the Battle of Verdun.
