The commune's name is derived from "Jonc". The village was founded by monks clearing the land around the year 900, and was successively known as Joncrusum, Joncherii, Joncherium... It belonged to the Jacquinot family in the 18th century. The Church of St Pierre ès Liens dates from the 12th/13th and 16th centuries. It features - 16th-century statues of Sainte Barbe, Saint Pierre-ès-Liens and the Virgin Mother - a 16th-century baptismal font - a stained-glass window with God the Father and Angels.
