De naam van de gemeente is afgeleid van "Jonc". Het dorp werd gesticht door monniken die het land ontgonnen rond het jaar 900 en stond achtereenvolgens bekend als Joncrusum, Joncherii, Joncherium... In de 18e eeuw behoorde het toe aan de familie Jacquinot. De kerk van St Pierre ès Liens dateert uit de 12e/13e en 16e eeuw. Het heeft - 16e-eeuwse beelden die Sainte Barbe, Saint Pierre-ès-Liens en de Maagdelijke Moeder voorstellen - een 16e-eeuws doopvont - een glas-in-loodraam met God de Vader en engelen.
