A sister institution of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Centre Pompidou-Metz is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Designed by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines, with Philip Gumuchdjian designing the competition-winning project, it offers four exhibition galleries covered by an audacious roof reminiscent of a Chinese hat. The spire, 77 metres high, is a nod to 1977, the year the Centre Pompidou-Paris opened. The Centre Pompidou-Metz hosts the best in modern and contemporary art through its temporary exhibitions.
