The Protestant temple of Saint-Jean-du-Gard is a religious building located at Place Carnot in Saint-Jean-du-Gard, in the Cévennes. The parish is a member of the United Protestant Church of France. Inaugurated in 1827, it is one of the largest Protestant temples in France.
Around 1551, thanks to the evangelization by the Waldensian brothers Pierre, Jean, and François Barbier from Piedmont, the inhabitants of Saint-Jean converted to the Protestant Reformation. During the Wars of Religion, royal troops sacked the city in 1560. In retaliation, the Romanesque church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste was destroyed, except for the bell tower, which became the Clock Tower of Saint-Jean-du-Gard.
