The remarkable Maison Pfister is located on the Rue des Marchands. The house, built in the first half of the sixteenth century, is one of the first houses in Colmar to be clearly influenced by the German Renaissance style. In particular, the two-storey bay window, the wooden balustrade and the octagonal tower make the house a special appearance. Various portraits have been painted on the various wooden panels of Huize Pfister. These portraits mainly depict former German emperors, Biblical figures and other symbolic figures. The house was originally built for the wealthy hatter Ludwig Scherer but owes its name to the merchant and later mayor of Colmar François-Xavier Pfister. Despite the obvious characteristics of the Renaissance style, the Maison Pfister still has many typical medieval features. The house is now a protected French heritage.
