Description

This statue stands on the corner of Rue Du Couvent and Rue Du Général Rieder in Kaysersberg.

Johann Geiler von Kaiserberg (Schaffhausen, March 16, 1445 - Strasbourg, March 10, 1510) was a Swiss preacher, who has been a Dom preacher in Strasbourg since 1478. He was the most important German preacher of the 15th century.

He lashed out at the abuses in the Church in sharp, often comical and drastically realistic speeches. His series of sermons on Brant's Narrenschiff gained great fame.

Most of his sermons were not recorded until later and their authenticity is disputed. Probably only Der Seelen Paradies is directly from him.
