A building known as the Auditoire, the permanent seat of the Provost's jurisdiction, can be seen on a plan from 1679. The auditorium occupies the entire 1st floor, with the manufactory hall below it, which opened onto the Place de l'Etape au Vin in 1434.
There is a date on a pediment on the side of the rue de la Monnaie: 1716, and a date on the Place Audiffred: 1891 Ledanté Frères architectes.
At that time, the current Crédit Lyonnais building was surrounded to the north by the rue du Chaperon, which became the rue de la Monnaie (in 1530 the rue de l'Auditoire); to the west by the rue des Croisettes, which became the rue Juvénal des Ursins; and to the south by the place de l'Etape au Vin, later called the place de la Banque (then place Audiffred), because the Banque de France was housed in the Chamber of Commerce building.
Nicolas Camusat sold the building to Jacques Pierre Fortier and his wife Marie Huez, who sold it to the Caisse d'Escompte de Commerce in 1807. In 1811, the Caisse Escompte de Commerce sold it to Jean Julien Gréau, a merchant, who sold it to Nicolas Contant, a merchant, in 1874. In 1890, the building was sold to François Soucin, a tannery merchant, and in 1924, his heir sold it to the Société du Crédit Lyonnais.
In 1891, the architects Ledanté brothers transformed the building and its facade. The carriage entrance was removed and the courtyard became a large hall with a glass dome.
The facade features the coat of arms of the city of Lyon (a lion and 3 fleurs-de-lis).
