Description

The city council gave its name to the first square in Troyes, the Place de la Mairie , on 12 May 1938. Suppressed during the occupation by the Vichy government, it was given its name again on 9 November 1949.

Alexandre Israël was born on 25 November 1868 in Algiers . He was a radical deputy for Aube from 1919 to 1924, senator for Aube from 1927 to 1937, Under-Secretary of State for the Interior from 3 June 1932 to 31 January 1933 in the governments of Edouard Herriot (and Joseph Paul-Boncour, Minister of Health from 26 November 1933 to 30 January 1934, in the Camille Chautemps government).

He died on August 23, 1937 in Paris.
