On the Place du Souvenir, behind the Town Hall, stands the Châtenois war memorial. Commemorating the memory of the great world conflicts of the 20th century, this monument was inaugurated on 5 August 1923
On a granite base stands a polished granite stele on which are engraved the names of soldiers who died for France. The arms of Lorraine, the arms of the town of Châtenois and the inscription "To its children who died for the Fatherland, the grateful town of Châtenois" are also engraved. The stele is surmounted by a white marble statue representing "a wounded soldier dragging the flag". The work is the result of a project by the neo-Castrian architect Charles Brossard; the stele is the work of the sculptor Eugène Perrin, from Pouxeux, while the statue was modelled by an Italian artist. Today, 43 names for the 1914-1918 war and 33 names for the 1939-1945 war can be read on this monument to the dead
Also in Chatenois, near the gendarmerie, there is a commemorative plaque recalling the sad episode of 12 May 1944, the day of a raid during which several gendarmes involved in the Resistance were arrested and then deported.
