Éric Bertrand was born in Metz, Lorraine, and studied in Lyon, France, where he obtained a doctorate in Literature and Civilization in 1993 before starting a career in teaching. As part of his research on Victor Hugo, he spent two years in the Highlands of Scotland, where he wrote his first book published by ALEAS, "La route, la poussière, le sable", an autofiction inspired by his hitchhiking tour of the United States. Back in France, he is appointed in Brittany and, as a workshop leader, he writes plays adapted to his audience. Anglo-American culture particularly inspires him in his works which revisit authors such as Kerouac, Tennessee Williams, George Orwell, Shakespeare, Swift, Serge Gainsbourg, Pirandello... He has also written fiction, and two essays on Victor HUGO published by Ellipses. He now teaches at the VIELJEUX high school in La Rochelle and continues his theatrical work in collaboration with a professional director.
