Thermes Gallo-Romains de Warcq

Rare by their luxury and their state of preservation, the thermal baths dating from the beginning of our era, were discovered at the gates of Charleville-Mézières. They bear witness to a rich past buried in the subsoil of the Ardennes. In order to maintain them in their present state, restoration work will be undertaken. Since 2009, the Departmental Council of the Ardennes has set up an archaeological operations unit, combining the preservation of the archaeological heritage of the Ardennes with the development of new development projects. The latter, during the excavation led by Julien Bruyère, in spring 2017 in Warcq, has enabled the thermal baths to be highlighted. This complete ensemble includes different rooms dedicated to the baths, an ingenious heating system and various ornaments made of white and coloured marble. To this day, these remains must be protected so that they can stand the test of time and continue to tell us our story. The project consists in restoring this ensemble, draining the grounds and consolidating the baths so that they can withstand this new open-air exhibition, and then enhancing the site by means of educational panels as well as an appropriate layout for future visitors allowing them to approach the site without damaging it.This project appeals to you and you wish to be part of this beautiful adventure and thus contribute to the enhancement of these baths and more widely to the development of the area, so make a donation!
