Flize is a commune of 1164 inhabitants, this village is nestled between Charleville-Mézières at 13km and Sedan also at 13km. This village has a rich history which is transmitted by a rich built heritage. The current Saint-Remi church dates from 1865: it has three naves with transept, 40 meters long and 20 meters wide. A rather pretty Way of the Cross is in relief on the wall and the organs were donated by Mrs Jacob. At the place known as the "Château", the confluence of the Meuse and the Elan stream, once stood a tower or look-out, as there were many along the river. On its site was built a castle that the Clermont-Tonnerre family lived in around 1815, and whose parks would have been designed by Le Nostre. In 1843, Mr. Gendarme, from Vrigne-aux-Bois, master of forges in Boutancourt and Flize, acquired this castle - or rather this bourgeois house - and completely transformed it. When the "liquidation of the factories" took place in 1868, the castle was bought by Mrs Jacob-Jacquemin, now deceased, who gave it its seigneurial appearance. It is now the property of the Arcomat company. Charleville / Sedan en Ardenne Tourist Office35 rue du Ménil08200 SEDANTél: 03 24 27 73 [email protected]
