The Pont de La Roche-Posay is the link between Touraine and Poitou, and has seen many upheavals over the years. In 1792, a major flood swept away the medieval stone bridge. At the end of the small peninsula, you can still see two large masonry blocks that supported the deck before the bridge collapsed at the end of the 18th century, following a major flood.
Until the 19th century, the Creuse was crossed by toll ferry from the end of Rue de la Cale.
