Former Rosières-en-Haye air base: One place, two discoveries!
Discover 3 hangars dating from the military period, and immerse yourself in the site's first activity!
This base has been an integral part of the history of the Pont-à-Mousson Basin since 1944. It came into its own in 1952, when it became an American NATO base (TRAB).
A veritable town was built within this enclave: cinema, theater, stores, railway line, chapel, sewage treatment plant. Between 3,000 and 4,000 people lived on the base.
In 1967, when France left NATO, General de Gaulle asked the Americans to leave. Now a French military base, TRAB became BA 136, the 11th fighter wing. The Jaguar became the emblematic aircraft. All overseas operations carried out by the French air force departed from this base, as in the Gulf War.
At the end of the military period, in 1998, the future of the base was being considered. The EDF Energies Nouvelles proposal was chosen, with the construction of a photovoltaic power plant. The project was an ambitious one, since when it was commissioned, the plant was the largest in the world, and now (following the development of this type of energy in the United States and Asia), the largest in Europe in terms of surface area.
