The château is not open to visitors, but its history is revealed through an exhibition dedicated to Pope Urban V, on view from July 14 to August 31 in an annex of the building.
It was within these walls that Guillaume Grimoard was born in 1309, before becoming pope under the name of Urbain V. The medieval building, erected in the 14th century and enlarged in the 15th, bears the imprint of this historic figure?s childhood.
The building was abandoned at the end of the 15th century. Since then, the estate has had several lives:
17th to 19th centuries: Major architectural transformations. 1
19th century: Conversion into a farm and community school.
Today, the rectangular ensemble comprises a watchtower, a central building and former farm buildings. Take a stroll around the grounds, and you'll see the remains of the defensive systems that once protected the castle.
The castle's current owner has restored the ancient ruins and brought the residence back to life.
